Operational Standard/Purpose

In order to plan for smooth transitions of administrators who are retiring, administrators under the scope of this standard will be required to give six months’ notice of their retirement date. This notice allows the college to conduct a search and hopefully provides some transition time in response to planned administrative retirements. It is in the best interest of the College to have planned transitions of these key leadership roles.

All administrators under the scope of this standard are expected to provide notice no later than six months prior to their planned retirement date. This notice should be given in writing and copied to the individual’s personnel file located in the Human Resources Department.

Scope/Applicability

This standard applies to all administrators in salary grades 28 and above. This standard does not apply to unplanned retirements due to life events.

Procedures

  1. Administrator provides a written notification to the supervising cabinet member, with a copy to the Human Resources Department, and the President on the intended retirement date. The College understands that the exact date may change slightly based on final SURS certification.
  2. Once notification is received, the retiree will be consulted regarding the announcement of their retirement and the College will proceed with transition plans.
  3. Refer to Employment Separations section in the Employee Handbook and Employment Separations Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for additional information.
