Operational Standard/Purpose
The Multiple Degree Standard Operational Procedure is to outline the degree and/or certificate that a student can be enrolled at any one time.
Scope/Applicability
Although a student may earn multiple Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degrees and/or certificates, he/she may earn only one of each of the following degrees:
- Associate in Arts (AA)
- Associate in Science (AS)
- Associate in Engineering Science (AES)
- Associate in General Studies (AGS)
In addition, degrees can only be obtained in the following order, but not in reverse order:
- Associate in General Studies (AGS)
- Associate in Arts (AA)
- Associate in Science (AS)
- Associate in Engineering Science (AES)
Therefore, a student may not earn:
- An Associate in Arts (AA) degree after earning an Associate in Science (AS) or Associate in Arts and Science degree (offered at ICC prior to 2010); or
- An Associate in General Studies (AGS) degree after earning any other associate or bachelor's degree.
Procedures
- Earning a degree:
- A student must complete a minimum of 60-64 credit hours for the Associate of Arts (AA), Associate of Science (AS), Associate of Engineering Science (AES), or General Studies (AGS), or a specified number of credit hours for an Associate of Applied Science Degree.
- Complete 18 credit hours of general education coursework for AAS degree.
- Earn a cumulative 2.0 GPA for all courses.
- Complete a minimum of 25% towards a degree or certificate at ICC. For Reverse Transfer, please see Reverse Transfer Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
- Earning a second degree:
- A student must meet all degree requirements as well as complete an additional 25% or 15 credit hours at ICC that apply toward the second program of study.
Additional Provisions/Information
A student may only be enrolled in one degree program at any one time but may be enrolled in multiple certificate programs. In addition, a student may only be enrolled in one sub-plan at any one time.
