Overview

Students who meet the qualifications criteria for the Honors Program are invited to apply for one of the 50 tuition waivers available, which are granted on a competitive basis through an application process. 

The tuition waiver applies to all for-credit classes taken at Illinois Central College up to 64 credit hours attempted. Lab fees, books, and supplies remain the responsibility of the student.

Eligibility

At minimum, students are eligible for the Honors Program Tuition Waiver if they meet one of the following requirements: 

  1. Current ICC students: Cumulative 3.5 GPA or above based on completion of at least 9 credit hours of college-level courses. 
  2. Incoming ICC students: ACT score of 25 or above, or SAT score of 1200 or above.  

Additionally, tuition waiver candidates must live within the district served by Illinois Central College who have not yet earned an associate or bachelor degree.

Students who receive the Honors Program tuition waiver must: 

  1. Attend the annual orientation meeting prior to the fall semester. 
  2. Maintain a cumulative 3.5 GPA and a 67 percent completion rate for courses attempted. 
  3. Be continually enrolled in fall and spring semesters with a minimum of 12 credit hours. 
  4. Complete two designated Honors courses (or Honors projects) each fall and spring semester. 
  5. Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year they receive the waiver.

How to Apply for the Honors Program Tuition

To be considered for the Tuition Waiver, complete the application process below.

  1. Any student new to ICC needs to apply to ICC before you complete your Honors application.
  2. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
  3. Complete the Honors Program Tuition Waiver Application.
  4. Honors Program Recommendation Form, submit at least one Recommendation Form. We recommend that you provide this form (or a copy of it) to a teacher or someone who can best comment on your academic performance and potential for success in our Honors Program. One recommendation may provide enough information for our selection committee. However, you may submit up to three recommendation forms with accompanying letters.
  5. Personal Statement. In no more than 300 words, respond to the following prompt: “Why do you want to be a part of ICC’s Honors Program? How will the Honors Program help you to achieve your academic goals, career goals, and/or other goals?”
  6. Official Transcripts
    1. High school transcripts
    2. College transcripts for all colleges attended and dual credit classes completed (including Illinois Central College)
  7. SAT or ACT scores report. Required for all applicants who have completed fewer than 9 credit hours at the time of their application.
