Employees are required to use multi-factor authentication (MFA) when signing in to Microsoft 365 applications from off-campus locations. This includes Outlook, Outlook on the Web, Outlook for Mobile, OneDrive, Teams, and other Office 365 apps.
Employees will need to use Microsoft Authenticator.
What is Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)? It's an extra layer of security for your ICC email account by requiring both your password and a verification code when signing in, especially from new devices or outside the college network.
Get the App
You'll need to download the Microsoft Authenticator app on your smartphone and set it up using your employee email address.
Download Microsoft Authenticator
- On your phone, open the App Store or Play Store.
- Search for Microsoft Authenticator.
- Install the Microsoft Authenticator app.
Sign in to Microsoft Authenticator
- Open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone.
- When prompted, allow Notifications.
- Select "Add work or school account."
- Select "Sign in."
- Sign in with your network user ID and password. User ID is your email: username@icc.edu.
- When prompted, "Verify your identity" with an existing MFA method, such as Text Message or Phone Call.
- Select "Finish" to finish the setup.
Go to Your Email
To test your access, sign in to your email and select your preferred verification method.
- Go to: mail.icc.edu
- Sign in using your network user ID and password. Your user ID is your employee email: username@icc.edu.
Set Up MFA
Choose your preferred verification method:
- Mobile App (Recommended) Select “Mobile app and choose to receive codes via notification or verification code
- Phone Number: Choose to receive a text message or call with a code
Follow the prompts to complete the setup.
Verify Setup
You’ll be asked to:
- Scan a QR code using your authenticator app, or
- Send via text/call. Once verified, MFA will be activated.
Future Sign-ins
You’ll be prompted to enter a verification code from your authenticator app or phone.
Whenever you log in from:
- A new device
- A different browser
- Off-campus
✅ You can check “Don’t ask again for 30 days if logging in from a trusted device."
Tips and Troubleshooting
- If you're locked out or lose access to your phone, contact the Service Desk for an MFA reset.
- Use a backup method (like an alternate phone number or email) when available.
- Keep your authenticator app updated.
