Install Microsoft 365 Apps

Overview

This article explains how to download and install Microsoft 365 (M365) desktop apps such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.

 

Note: You must have an active Microsoft 365 license assigned to your account to install the apps.


Audience

  • Users with an organization-provided Microsoft 365 account

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure the following:

  • You know your work or school email address and password
  • You are connected to the Internet
  • You have local administrator rights on the device (or IT assistance)
  • Your device meets Microsoft 365 system requirements

Installation Instructions

  1. Open a web browser and go to: https://mail.icc.edu
  2. Sign in using your work or school account.
  3. Select the App Launcher (nine dots in the top‑left corner)
  4. Click More apps
  5. In the upper-right corner, click Install apps
  6. Choose Microsoft 365 apps.
  7. A new tab should open, click Install Office.
  8. Open the downloaded file and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.
  9. Once finished, open any Office app (e.g., Word) and sign in if prompted.

Activating Microsoft 365 Apps

After installation:

  1. Launch any Microsoft 365 app (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  2. When prompted, sign in with your work or school email address.
  3. Activation will complete automatically if a license is assigned.

Troubleshooting

"You don’t have a license" error

  • Verify that Microsoft 365 is assigned to your account.
  • Sign out of all Office apps and sign back in.
  • Contact the Service Desk if the issue persists.

Installation fails or hangs

  • Restart your computer and try again.
  • Temporarily disable VPN or third-party antivirus software.
  • Ensure all operating system updates are installed.

Previously installed Office version

  • Uninstall older versions of Office before installing Microsoft 365.
  • Reboot the device after uninstalling.
