Operational Standard/Purpose

This standard provides the processes and procedures available to the College for course placement of students that have attended an accredited four-year institution. In an effort to minimize enrollment barriers for those students that have successfully completed coursework at an accredited four-year institution, ICC allows the student to enroll in several transfer-level courses available at the college. This allows for streamlined enrollment procedures for the student and eliminates the need for placement exams when the student has already met the requirements for admission to a four-year institution. This also eliminates the need for the student to wait for a full evaluation of the incoming transcript to determine in which courses the student may enroll.

Scope/Applicability

This policy applies to any ICC applicant or enrolled student that has attended an accredited four-year institution prior to coming to or returning to ICC for credit bearing coursework.

Procedures

Students may submit an unofficial or official transcript from the accredited four-year institution. Transcripts are sent to studentrecords@icc.edu. Registrar’s staff will make the transcript available to additional staff around the college with access to view student records in document imaging program. The Registrar’s staff will review the transcript to ensure the student has successfully completed coursework at the accredited four-year school. If it is determined the student qualifies for placement, the staff member will place the student in the VSIT student group. This student group is set up on transfer credit coursework, so students are identified as meeting the prerequisite requirement when placed in the group. The list of courses with the applicable VSIT requirements will be reviewed in November by the Academic Deans. The Academic Deans will submit course additions and deletions via the attached form to the Curriculum and Scheduling Office by December 1 to ensure VSIT requirements are in place for the following academic year.
